The Warner Bros.-distributed biopic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, will premiere on Nov. 3 in advance of its Nov. 9 theatrical release.

The mystery of where Clint Eastwood’s anticipated J.Edgar will premiere has been solved.

After bypassing the Venice/Telluride/Toronto festival scene, the biopic will open the American Film Institute’s annual AFI Fest. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as FBI director J. Edgar Hoover and written by Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black, the Warner Bros.-distributed film will debut at a gala on Nov. 3 in advance of its opening in limited theaters on November 9 and a platform release (and awards campaign) after that.

“Clint Eastwood is an American icon — one whose work as a director, actor, producer and composer not only stands the test of time, but also continues to add new, rich chapters with each passing year,” AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale said in a statement.

This year’s 25th annual AFI Fest will take place from November 3 through November 10 in and around Hollywood. Venues include the Chinese Theatre, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Scorsese’s “The Gambler” remake creates early buzz
30 August, 2011 Author: Catagories: Articles, Films No Comments

Though Martin Scorsese only announced his plans to remake The Gambler on Friday, the project is gaining a lot of buzz. Unsurprisingly, Scorsese wants to re-team with Leonardo DiCaprio for the fifth time since first working together for 2002′s Gangs Of New York. Three of those films, Gangs, The Aviator and The Departed, have garnered Best Picture, Best Director and countless acting nominations. Scorsese seems to hope to replicate the accolades The Departed, which was a remake itself, won.

Not all seem excited about the project though. James Toback, the original’s screenwriter, felt “disbelief that [he learned] of these plans” via a phone call at 3 a.m. Paramount, the studio who owns the rights to the movie never informed Toback about the plans to rewrite the script that launched his career. The screenwriter phoned Deadline to discuss his feelings about it.

Gemma Ward to join the cast of “The Great Gatsby”
29 August, 2011 Author: Catagories: Films, News, Rumors No Comments

Not to discount Gemma Ward’s spot as Jackie Masters in the 2008 emotional drama The Black Balloon, but the Australian-born model-turned-actress hasn’t really won any breakthrough roles to shift her distinguished career from former supermodel to Hollywood mainstay.

But Ms. Ward, now 23, might be able to pave her way — she is expected to join A-list’s finest (read: Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Isla Fisher) for the Buz Luhrmann-adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

After going on a three-year hiatus, something she said was “spurred by [former boyfriend] Heath Leger’s death,” Gemma returned to acting with a small role in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides earlier this year, but perhaps her role — though yet to be determined — alongside Hollywood greats will serve as the catalyst in her burgeoning acting career.

What do you think of the choice to cast Gemma? Do you think this means she’ll really never return to modeling?

Beyoncé pregnancy delays “A Star Is Born”; Leonardo DiCaprio passes on project
29 August, 2011 Author: Catagories: Films, News No Comments

Last night at the VMAs, Beyoncé Knowles announced that she was pregnant because a trashy farce of an awards ceremony is the proper forum for announcing such personal news (I guess it’s better than a tabloid). Knowles was set to star in Clint Eastwood’s remake of A Star Is Born and her pregnancy is a double-edged sword for the production. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. will likely push back the February 2012 start date, and I’m not sure how that will sit with Eastwood considering the grizzled legend has been bent on delivering a new movie every year. However, the delay also gives the studio more time to find a new leading man since Leonardo DiCaprio, Eastwood’s top choice for the male lead, has passed on the project. Other names being floated for the role include Christian Bale, Will Smith, and I’m sure other high-profile actors are being considered.

For those unfamiliar with A Star Is Born, the story concerns a movie star whose career is on the decline. He helps a young showgirl ascend to stardom but tensions grow between them as her star rises while he descends further into obscurity. The 1954 version starring Judy Garland and James Mason picked up six Oscar nominations.

The two pals were spotted riding around on a red and cream vintage convertible car with two passengers in the back.

Leo will be playing Jay Gatsby in the big screen adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s most famous novel while Tobey Maguire will play Nick Carraway.

Former Home And Away star Isla Fisher was also seen on the set in Sydney, Australia, with her red hair tied back with a headscarf as she got ready to shoot her scenes as Myrtle Wilson.

Carey Mulligan fought off competition from the likes of Keira Knightley, Scarlett Johansson and Leo’s now-girlfriend, Blake Lively, to star opposite DiCaprio as Daisy Buchanan but the An Education star wasn’t seen on the set.

The big budget production is set to be released in 2012 in 3D and reunites DiCaprio with Baz Luhrmann, who directed Leo in 1996′s Romeo + Juliet.

Leonardo DiCaprio arrives in Australia to shoot “The Great Gatsby”
22 August, 2011 Author: Catagories: Articles, Films, News No Comments

Hollywood megastar Leonardo DiCaprio touched down at Sydney airport this morning to begin filming on Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

Wearing a cap and hoodie pulled over his head, DiCaprio kept his eyes down and tapped busily on his mobile phone as he made his way to his vehicle.

Rumor has it the Hollywood heavyweight will be joined by new girlfriend Blake Lively, who narrowly missed out on the role of Daisy Buchanan in the film, during his four-month shoot.

It will be the first time Australian director Luhrmann and DiCaprio have worked together since Romeo + Juliet in 1996.

DiCaprio plays Gatsby in the adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel and will be joined by Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan, Isla Fisher as Myrtle (Tom’s mistress), and Australian newcomer Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker.

The film is due for release in late 2012

The tale of doomed love has been filmed six times, the most famous being the 1974 Francis Ford Coppola-penned version starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.

Kevin Costner is “Django” villain
19 July, 2011 Author: Catagories: Films, News No Comments

Oscar winner to play DiCaprio’s slave master in Tarantino’s next.

Oscar winner Kevin Costner will play a bad guy in Django Unchained, the next film from writer-director Quentin Tarantino. The cast already includes Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson.

Deadline says Costner will play Ace Woody, “the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes. The club and ranch are owned by Calvin Candie (DiCaprio) and Ace Woody is the one who pits the ‘mandingo’ fighters against one another, and has little qualms about mistreating and even killing the slaves who don’t measure up.”

The site says Costner will shoot his role as Pa Kent in Man Of Steel before he filming Django Unchained this fall.

Beyoncé and Leonardo DiCaprio to star in Clint Eastwood’s “A Star Is Born”
6 July, 2011 Author: Catagories: Films, News No Comments

We previously reported that Clint Eastwood and Beyoncé Knowles were in talks to work together on the third remake of A Star Is Born. All of the hype has officially been confirmed.

According to NME, Clint Eastwood has selected Beyoncé Knowles and Leonardo DiCaprio to play lead roles in the upcoming film. DiCaprio will play an aging rock star opposite an aspiring singer, played by Beyoncé. Knowles is following in the footsteps of famed actresses Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand, who both have played the iconic role before her.

The musician-turned-actress reportedly told Good Morning America she was very excited about the role.

“Clint Eastwood? Can you believe that,” Knowles said. “I can’t believe it still. When I met with him I was just in awe. I’m so, so honored that he believes in me. And I can’t wait to do this film.”

The movie is set to hit theaters next year.
