Will Rebecca Hall play Daisy Buchanan?
20 October, 2010 Author: Catagories: Career, Rumors No Comments

Earlier this month, there was a hot rumor that Amanda Seyfried, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire would be starring in a Baz Luhrmann version of “The Great Gatsby”.Then Deadline reported that nothing was as it seemed: Luhrmann hadn’t decided yet if he was going to make Gatsby, DiCaprio hadn’t decided if he wanted to play the title role, and Seyfried had not been targeted for the role of Daisy Buchanan.

But now, slowly and not so surely, the project seems to be moving out of limbo. Luhrmann still hasn’t decided whether he’ll make the movie, but he did recently visit Sony Pictures in New York, where Deadline reports that he “workshopped the adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel that he wrote with frequent collaborator Craig Pearce. I’m told that Leonardo DiCaprio read the role of Gatsby, Tobey Maguire read Nick Carraway, and that The Town star Rebecca Hall read the role of Daisy.”

DiCaprio & Maguire workshopping Luhrmann’s “Great Gatsby”
18 October, 2010 Author: Catagories: Career, Rumors No Comments

Not only are best buds Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire keen to work together again, but the duo are always willing to help out a filmmaker friend in need of a couple movie stars.

The acclaimed actors were in New York last weekend to “workshop” a couple of scenes for Baz Luhrmann’s planned adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel “The Great Gatsby,” TheWrap has learned.

DiCaprio and Maguire read the respective roles of Jay Gatsby and narrator Nick Carraway, characters who were played by Robert Redford and Sam Waterston in Jack Clayton’s 1974 adaptation.

Sony and Luhrmann share the rights to the project, which the director is writing with frequent collaborator Craig Pearce (Moulin Rouge!).

Luhrmann is also producing with Catherine Martin and Red Wagon’s Lucy Fisher and Douglas Wick.

It was previously reported that the Australia director hadn’t decided whether to direct a new Gatsby adaptation or an original musical set up at Media Rights Capital, but if Luhrmann is workshopping the script with DiCaprio and Maguire, it’s a pretty clear indication that he’s made up his mind about his next project.

DiCaprio previously starred in Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, and he acted alongside Maguire in both This Boy’s Life and the little-seen indie Don’s Plum.

Leonardo DiCaprio for Superman?
16 October, 2010 Author: Catagories: Career, Rumors No Comments

The Daily Star claims Leonardo DiCaprio admitted to wanting to be the next Superman.

To be totally honest, I have never been to the Daily Star site so I have no idea if they are known for B.S. stories or if they are concrete. This piece of news seems like something tabloids would make up, and since they have so little information to give about it, I am not totally convinced this is true.

However, taking there word for it, The Daily Star reports Leonardo DiCaprio himself admitted to them at the Inception premiere that he would like to take up the Superman role.

“I think I’d look really hot in Lycra, don’t you?”, said DiCaprio, who ironically had Christopher Nolan, who is set to produce the upcoming Zack Snyder reboot of Superman, as his Inception director.

Not that this story means anything, but if Leo is interested in playing Supes it is certainly worth putting the word out. Leonardo DiCaprio is a big star and one of the most respected ones of his generation.

EDITOR NOTE: The Daily Star has about as much credibility as The Enquirer, which is to say almost none.

Wanna know what’s going to be on the “Inception” Blu-ray, and when it’s out?
15 October, 2010 Author: Catagories: Films, News No Comments

Fans of Chris Nolan’s Inception — of which there are many: Inception just crossed $800m at the worldwide box office — have been wondering when the film would be hitting DVD and Blu-ray ever since the film hit theaters, so it’s with great pleasure that we can report that the release date has just been announced. Not only that, but we’ve also learned what bonus feature will be attached to the disc. Curious? Read on for the details, my fellow film geeks…

Over $800m worth of tickets were sold for Inception this year, which means that Chris Nolan’s film had quite a few fans. And, according to the press release just distributed by Warner Bros., we’re all going to get another chance to pour over its every frame much sooner than we thought: Inception will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray just in time for the holidays, on December 7th. So, if those four trips to the theater weren’t enough for you to wrap your head around the film’s many mysteries, you’ll have the opportunity to wear the film out in the comfort of your own living room soon enough.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the film’s going to include a director’s commentary from Nolan, something that film geeks everywhere were hoping for (he didn’t have one on The Dark Knight, either, but the commentary that came packaged with Insomnia was very good). Additionally, it seems that the Blu-ray is going to be stacked with many more bonus features than the standard DVD. This is good news for Blu-ray enthusiasts, but if you’re not already packing a Blu-ray player, it might finally be time to lay down the money (which, to be frank, you should’ve done awhile back: Blu-ray rocks). Here’s the full list of special features:

* Extraction Mode. Infiltrate the dreamscape of Inception – with this in-movie experience – to learn how Christopher Nolan, Leonardo DiCaprio and the rest of the cast and crew designed and achieved the movies signature moments. (Blu-ray only)
* Dreams: Cinema of the Subconscious. Taking some of the most fascinating and cutting-edge dream research to-date on lucid dreaming, top scientists make the case that the dream world is not an altered state of consciousness, but a fully functional parallel reality. (Blu-ray only)
* Inception: The Cobol Job. Now in full animation and motion, check out this comic prologue to see how Cobb, Arthur, and Nash came to be enlisted by Cobol Engineering and perform an extraction on Saito. (Blu-ray only)
* 5.1 Inception Soundtrack. Composer Hans Zimmer teams up once again with Director Christopher Nolan to create the soundtrack for Inception. Enjoy this feature in full 5.1 surround. (Blu-ray only)
* Conceptual Art Gallery. (Blu-ray only)
* Promotional Art Archive. (Blu-ray only)
* Trailers and TV Spots. (Blu-ray only)
* BD-Live – Project Somnacin: Confidential Files. Get access to the highly secure files that reveal the inception of the dream-share technology. (Blu-ray only)
* 4 Focus Points:
o The Inception of Inception. Christopher Nolan shapes his unusual concepts for Inception
o The Japanese Castle: The Dream is Collapsing. Creating and destroying the castle set
o Constructing Paradoxical Architecture. Designing the staircase to nowhere
o The Freight Train. Constructing the street-faring freight train

Whew. That’s a pretty thorough set of extras, no? Again, it’s unfortunate that Nolan didn’t include a commentary (some of the best commentaries that we’ve seen have arrived this year, like Matthew Vaughan’s Kick-Ass commentary, or Tom Six’s Human Centipede ramblings), but beggars can’t be choosers. It is nice to see that a featurette devoted entirely to the soundtrack is present, though. Does that mean that the whole soundtrack’s going to be playable directly from the disc? Certainly sounds that way.

Clint Eastwood says Joaquin Phoenix is not in “Hoover” biopic
12 October, 2010 Author: Catagories: Articles/Interviews, Career No Comments

Last month we got word that masquerading, bearded rapper Joaquin Phoenix might make his triumphant return to acting playing opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Eastwood’s biopic Hoover. Word on the street was that director Clint Eastwood wanted the actor to play J. Edgar Hoover’s protégé/suspected lover Clyde Tolson. However, in a recent interview with Retuers (via SlashFilm) when asked if there was any truth to the reports of Phoenix’s involvement, Eastwood responded rather simply and hilariously with: “No. I don’t know where that came from. Didn’t he become a rapper?” Luckily, Eastwood had more to say about the project.

Eastwood spoke candidly about his approach to Hoover and his life in regards to this project:

“He was a very complex person. The homosexual aspect is just one of many. I would say that’s the least of his problems. But he was also very clever, whether rightfully or wrongfully, he was very clever about keeping himself in a certain position in life, so it is an interesting study. He is a fascinating character, and I think I am the right person to do it, not because I knew him or anything, but I did grow up with him. He was an iconic figure.”

Before anyone freaks out about Eastwood referring to his supposed homosexuality as a “problem,” it’s clear he’s referring to keeping his affair secret as the problem in question and not saying that simply being gay is a problem. Of course the issue here is the fact that Hoover so adamantly denied his homosexuality and had to hide it from his friends, family and colleagues. However, since Eastwood grew up when Hoover was in the limelight, a time when “comic books with him on the cover with machine guns and all that,” he thinks he can do the man’s life story justice onscreen. Hopefully DiCaprio is up to that huge task as well. Sound good?

Eastwood confirms DiCaprio for “Hoover”
12 October, 2010 Author: Catagories: Career, News No Comments

Director Clint Eastwood yesterday said Leonardo DiCaprio was definitely lined up to play J. Edgar Hoover in a biopic on the first FBI director. The film’s makers were “in the process” of signing contracts with the actor, Eastwood said. But the director shot down rumors that Joaquin Phoenix might return to acting by portraying Hoover’s protégé, Clyde Tolson. “No. I don’t know where that came from,” he said. “Didn’t he become a rapper?” Phoenix has revealed his plan to quit acting and become a rap star was a charade.

Michael Caine reveals “Inception” ending
1 October, 2010 Author: Catagories: Articles/Interviews, Career No Comments

Sir Michael Caine has shared his theories on the ending of Inception.

Speaking to Radio 1′s Chris Moyles, the actor revealed that it took him some time to understand the final scenes of Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending sci-fi thriller.

“I loved the movie Inception, it was absolutely great. I eventually understood it because Chris has a mind all of his own,” he said.

Discussing the movie’s spinning top – which signifies whether events are unfolding in dreams or reality – Caine suggested that it toppled after the movie cuts to black, meaning that Leonardo DiCaprio’s Dom Cobb had safely reunited with his children.

He explained: “It drops at the end, that’s when I come back on. Young people say to me, ‘At the end, when you’re there, is it real or is it a dream?’ I say, ‘If I’m there, it’s real because I’m never in the dream’.”

Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Amanda Seyfried to possibly star in “The Great Gatsby”
1 October, 2010 Author: Catagories: Career, Rumors No Comments

We haven’t heard much about the upcoming adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s beloved classic, “The Great Gatsby”. In fact, we haven’t heard anything about the project since we reported on the news that director Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) had bought the rights to the novel in 2008. Now, Production Weekly has announced some exciting casting rumors via their twitter feed. The rumors are that Leonardo DiCaprio is up for the role of Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire for Nick Carraway, and Amanda Seyfried for Daisy Buchanan. There is no mention of Luhrmann directing, but I’m going to assume that he still owns the rights and will be helming the film.

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel continues to be mandatory school reading (I read it in 8th grade) for a good reason. The book’s tragic story of two wealthy aristocrats (DiCaprio and Seyfried), their next door neighbor (Maguire), and their doomed love affair during the early 1920s continues to be poignant more than 80 years later after it’s first publication in 1925. It’s easy to see why Luhrmann would be interested in adapting the story for a modern generation that continues to be fascinated by fame and wealth… The trio of actors are, in my opinion, very solid choices and I look forward to seeing how Luhrmann will choose to tackle the novel.

Leonardo DiCaprio & Joaquin Phoenix getting close for “Hoover”
27 September, 2010 Author: Catagories: Career, Rumors No Comments

Despite rumors to the contrary, Leonardo DiCaprio has been confirmed in the title role in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming biopic Hoover. DiCaprio’s involvement had come into question over the last several weeks but Hoover screenwriter Dustin Lance Black confirmed that he is still lined up to play the title role in the film.

Other, wilder, rumors have been flying about Hoover with the most interesting being that Joaquin Phoenix may be cast as DiCaprio’s onscreen lover, Clyde Tolson. Black had no comment on the possible involvement of Phoenix in the project.

Black is the Oscar winning script writer behind the film Milk, and many believe he will approach this biopic in a similar story telling manner to Milk. Harvey Milk’s story was told throughout the film with Milk telling his life story to a voice recorder. Black has said that a similar vehicle for the story shouldn’t be expected, but that he would like to tackle Hoover’s life in a way no other has previously done, telling the story from Hoover’s point of view.
